School History

In 1968, West Side High School ( now West Side Leadership Academy ) opened its doors for grades 9-12. West Side is located in a residential urban setting in a city of approximately 116,000 people.  The neighborhood is well maintained and draws strength from the support of local churches and other neighborhood schools.

From 2009 until Spring 2014, the Academy consisted of grades 7 – 12; however, beginning this school year West Side will only service 9-12 grade students. The enrollment is presently over 1,200 students.  Currently, over 90% of the student population is African-American.
