Welcome To West Side Leadership Academy

We the staff, parents and community of West Side Leadership Academy are committed to challenging our academically able student body to their highest potential.

We hold high expectations that each student will have a successful transition to middle school and develop and/or maintain a positive self-image, a strong academic foundation, employability skills, and an awareness of professional and career options.

Each student will strive to be productive, responsible, and caring citizen in a diverse, global and technological world through an accelerated and enriched differentiated curriculum for academically advanced students.

School History

In 1968, West Side High School ( now West Side Leadership Academy ) opened its doors for grades 9-12. West Side is located in a residential urban setting in a city of approximately 116,000 people.  The neighborhood is well maintained and draws strength from the support of local churches and other neighborhood schools.

From 2009 until Spring 2014, the Academy consisted of grades 7 – 12; however, beginning this school year West Side will only service 9-12 grade students. The enrollment is presently over 1,200 students.  Currently, over 90% of the student population is African-American.
