We the staff, parents and community of West Side Leadership Academy are committed to challenging our academically able student body to their highest potential.
We hold high expectations that each student will have a successful transition to post secondary or trade school and develop and/or maintain a positive self-image, a strong academic foundation, employability skills, and an awareness of professional and career options.
Each student will strive to be productive, responsible, and caring citizen in a diverse, global and technological world through an accelerated and enriched differentiated curriculum for academically advanced students.
Breast Cancer Awareness!
Deanna Williams just joined the West Side Family this school year! She is always on time for work and all scheduled meetings. She is a student advocate. Ms. Williams meets regularly with her assigned students. Going above and beyond the call of duty, she assisted the case manager to develop LRE Binder. Ms. Williams is also working to establish the school-wide RTI process and to get resource up and running. She is very proactive, meeting regularly with administrators to discuss solutions to concerns that have been raised and displays professionalism at all times. Ms. Williams has also willingly agreed to Co-teach with another colleague for science to improve outcomes for their students!

West Side Leadership Academy is a public high school located on the west side of Gary, Indiana in a residential, urban setting. The population of Gary is approximately 80,300. In 1968, West Side High School opened its doors for grades 9-12 in a flourishing neighborhood that was well-maintained and a community of people that worked and lived in unity.
In 2009, West Side acquired grades 7 & 8 and remained a 7-12 school until the end of the 2013-2014 school year. Changes in the city of Gary have also affected West Side, whose student population is reflective of the population of the surrounding neighborhood. West Side serves a predominantly African-American student population.
For the 2014-2015 school year, enrollment was just under 900. In spite of the unique challenges facing West Side, it is still standing and making strides in the right direction! With the leadership of the new administration, West Side hopes to become one of the best high schools in Northwest Indiana.
