Dr. Pete Morikis, Emergency Manager
Dr. Peter Morikis is the Emergency Manager of the Gary Community School Corporation. Previously, he served as superintendent of schools in neighboring Griffith Public Schools for 14 years. While in Griffith, Dr. Morikis executed a successful and sustainable financial plan. He implemented the 8-Step Academic Process and saw gains in achievement and graduation rates. Under his leadership, Griffith High School was recognized on the National AP Honor Roll.
Since joining the team at the Gary Schools, Morikis has led the charge to cut the District’s deficit in half, rejuvenate STEM and visual arts at the middle school level while expanding the offerings for pre-K and full-day kindergarten. With youth being his main focus, Morikis is often quoted as saying, “This is a child’s world, and we are fortunate enough to work in it.”
Morikis can be found throughout the community spreading the mission and message of the Gary schools. He is eager to partner with organizations and businesses that support the advancement of the Gary schools. Morikis’ professional journey has included roles as an elementary teacher, principal and assistant superintendent of curriculum and personnel.
He obtained his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Indiana State University and his Superintendent’s License, Ed.S and M.S. in Educational Leadership as well as an M.S. and B.S in Elementary Education from Indiana University.
A loving husband and father of four, Morikis resides in Gary, Indiana.
