(Gary, IND) – The Gary Community School Corporation (GCSC) has announced a wide range of summer programs designed to support academic growth and deliver engaging enrichment opportunities for students of all ages.

“Whether through specialized learning or innovative activities, the 2025 summer offerings ensure students continue to thrive over the school break,” said Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Cynthia Treadwell.

Summer School

Summer School for students enrolled in the Gary Community School Corporation will take place June 9th – June 26th, Mondays – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  specifically for 2nd and 3rd graders. Targeted academic opportunities will be tailored to students’ needs. The focus will be on developing critical reading skills in preparation for standardized tests and building a strong reading foundation for the upcoming school year. At the high school level, Summer School classes take place from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. for students grades 9-12. Credit recovery will be available as well as opportunities for students to excel further in their academic journeys.

Summer Passports Program
The Summer Passports program is open to all students entering Kindergarten through 12th grade. Rising kindergarten—8th-grade students from any school in Gary can attend this free program. For grades 9-12, students must be registered as GCSC scholars to participate. Registration is required for the Summer Passports Program. Curriculum topics include health, career exploration, and extracurricular activities that will be available beyond the summer.

Exciting Partnerships for Enriching Experiences
The Gary Community School Corporation is also partnering with local organizations to provide additional programming that expands students’ horizons:

  • Gear Up STEM Camp for middle school students explores the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, and math from June 16th to June 18th. This camp delivers hands-on activities that spur curiosity and creativity.

  • The 2nd Annual Northwest Learning Lab, hosted by the Urban League of NWI, will also take place for students entering the 4th or 5th grade. The program offers enrichment experiences outside of the classroom. While providing academic enrichment, a few field experiences will be intertwined in the curriculum.
