(Gary, IND) – The Gary Community School Corporation (GCSC) is excited to announce a series of opportunities aimed at fostering deeper engagement between parents and the district. Following last week's successful Open House events, where families had the chance to meet their child’s teachers, tour the schools, and interact with staff and administrators, GCSC is now introducing an innovative way for parents to stay involved and informed.

This week, the district will launch the ”Parent Power Hour” series, designed to provide parents with essential information and strategies to support their child’s educational journey. The first session will cover a range of important topics, including the district’s newly implemented behavior matrix, updates on district policies, and tips for enhancing engagement within the school community. In response to parents' busy schedules, each session will be offered four times, making it easier for families to attend at their convenience.

"We understand that the partnership between home and school is critical for student success," said Dr. Cynthia Treadwell, Chief Academic Officer of the Gary Community School Corporation. "The Parent Power Hour sessions provide an opportunity for families to not only learn about key district initiatives but also actively engage in meaningful discussions that will have a lasting impact on their children’s education."

In addition to the Parent Power Hour series, GCSC is extending an invitation to all parents interested in being more involved with the district’s decision-making processes. Parents can now apply to join the Parent Advisory Council and/or the Parent Partnership Council, both of which serve to strengthen communication and collaboration between families, schools, and the district. These councils focus on engaging parents in the development of policies, programs, and initiatives at both the school and district levels.

"We’re committed to ensuring that every parent has a voice in their child's education," said Jamila Adams, Assistant Director of Curriculum and Assessment. "The Parent Advisory and Parent Partnership Councils are vital components of our ongoing efforts to foster a strong, supportive educational community."
