GCSC F.A.C.E. Department to Host “CommUnity Giveback” August 25th to Support Families in Storm Aftermath

(Gary, IND) — In response to the severe storm that swept through Northwest Indiana on August 11th, leaving many families without power, damaged homes, and disrupted routines, the Gary Community School Corporation’s Family and Community Engagement (F.A.C.E.) Department is rallying the community for a special relief‑focused event: the CommUnity Giveback.

Taking place Tuesday, August 25th from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM in the parking lot of West Side Leadership Academy, 900 Gerry St. (enter through Gerry and 11th Street), this event is designed to provide immediate support to students and families recovering from the storm’s impact. Attendees will receive free school supplies, hygiene kits, snacks and shoes on a first‑come, first‑served basis while supplies last, helping scholars regain stability as the school year continues.

Partnerships have been forged with Gary Alumni Pathway to Students, PSC, HER Honor Empower Reach Enterprise, BeAble and Butterfly Dreamz. These organizations have stepped up to ensure families have what they need during this challenging time.

Chelsea Whittington, Chief of Public and Community Relations for the Gary Community School Corporation, emphasized the importance of unity and support:
