Gary Community School Corporation Launches “Tech Tuesday” to Connect, Inform and Empower Families
Weekly virtual series gives GCSC families practical tools, district resources and information to strengthen family-school partnerships and support student success
(Gary, IND) – The Gary Community School Corporation (GCSC) is expanding its commitment to meaningful family engagement with the launch of Tech Tuesday, a new virtual series designed to help families stay informed, connected and equipped to support their students throughout the school year.
Hosted by GCSC’s Family and Community Engagement (F.A.C.E.) Department, Tech Tuesday provides families with short, accessible learning sessions focused on topics that directly impact student success. Sessions will feature practical strategies, helpful district resources, technology guidance and opportunities for families to better understand how to navigate and engage with their schools.
Tech Tuesday sessions are held virtually on Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m., allowing parents and caregivers to participate from home, work or anywhere they have internet access.
The series kicked off on Tuesday, August 11, with “Creating Strong Morning & Evening Routines for Student Success,” providing families with practical strategies for establishing consistent routines that help students arrive at school prepared, focused and ready to learn.

Tuesday, August 25 Family-School Partnerships 101: How to Advocate & Stay Engaged Learn practical ways to build positive relationships with your child’s school, communicate effectively and confidently advocate for your student.
Tuesday, September 1 Attendance Matters: The Real Impact of Missing School Explore how absences can impact academic progress, relationships and long-term student success, along with strategies families can use to support consistent attendance.
Tuesday, September 8 When My Child Doesn’t Want to Go to School: Practical Solutions
Discuss common reasons students may resist attending school and learn practical ways families and schools can work together to identify concerns and support successful attendance.
Tuesday, September 15 Behavior Matrix & Positive Discipline at Home Learn how schoolwide behavior expectations can be reinforced at home while exploring positive discipline strategies that encourage consistency, accountability and healthy communication.
Tuesday, September 22 Financial Literacy for Families Explore practical financial tools and strategies designed to help families strengthen budgeting, saving, financial planning and everyday money management skills.
Additional topics will be announced throughout the school year.
“Family engagement should be accessible, practical and connected to what families are experiencing every day,” said Crystal O’Brien, Public & Community Engagement Specialist/FACE Coordinator for GCSC. “Tech Tuesday allows us to take information families need and bring it directly to them in a format that is convenient and easy to use. We want families to walk away from each session with something they can put into practice immediately — whether that means establishing a better morning routine, advocating for their student, addressing attendance concerns or accessing resources that strengthen their household.”
Tech Tuesday is part of GCSC’s broader commitment to strengthening family-school partnerships and creating multiple pathways for families to engage with the district. Through F.A.C.E., families can also access Parent Resources, Family Advocacy information, school-based F.A.C.E. Liaisons, Parent Cafés, workshops, community partnerships and support services.
