All GCSC students will begin school on a two-hour delay, with the exception of Bethune Early Childhood Center students, who should not report on Monday.

Students should arrive at their bus stops or schools two hours later than their normal scheduled time.

Frankie Woods McCullough Academy remains without power. McCullough students will report on the two-hour delay and attend classes at the Gary Area Career Center, located at 1800 E. 35th Avenue. Bus riders will receive transportation to and from the GACC.

Bethune Early Childhood Center also remains without power. Bethune Early Childhood students will not report to school on Monday.

All other GCSC students will report to their regular school buildings on the two-hour delay.

We understand that many families throughout Gary are still recovering from the unprecedented storm and derecho. We sincerely appreciate your patience, flexibility and resilience as our community continues moving forward.

We are excited to welcome our students back and restore a sense of learning, connection and normalcy. Please continue to stay safe and monitor district communications for additional updates.

Due to the continued power outage and storm-related damage, school will not be in session on Monday Aug 17th or Tuesday Aug 18th. Safety remains our top priority, and we appreciate your patience as crews work to restore power and address building needs.

In one hour, the district will be supplying free grab and go lunches for all students and families on today Friday, August 14th from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. via a 3-lane drive-thru system (No need to get out of your car.) at West Side Leadership Academy, 900 Gerry St. in Gary. Please enter from 11th Avenue and Gerry St. side.



Parents/guardians, please come prepared to present proper ID/proof showing that your child is enrolled in the Gary Community School Corporation (i.e. driver's license, student ID card, registration documents, etc.). One lunch per child will be provided plus a lunch for the parent/guardian.

The Gary Community School Corporation is proud to announce that Beveridge Elementary School and Frankie Woods McCullough Academy have earned Level 1 Family Engagement Certification through IN*SOURCE, the Indiana Statewide Family Engagement Center. 

Level 1 Certification recognizes schools that intentionally listen to families and honor their voices. This achievement reflects each school’s commitment to gathering meaningful feedback from families, ensuring parents and caregivers have opportunities to share their perspectives, and using that feedback to strengthen the school experience for students and families alike.

Through strong participation in the family engagement survey process, families at both schools provided valuable insight into their experiences, needs, and priorities. School leaders and staff demonstrated their commitment to family engagement by actively seeking out family voice and using that information to guide their ongoing improvement efforts.

This recognition is particularly noteworthy given the competitive nature of the certification process. More than 70 schools across Indiana applied for Family Engagement Certification, and only 17 schools successfully attained certification during this cycle. Of those 17 schools, two are from Gary Community School Corporation, highlighting the district’s commitment to meaningful family engagement practices.

“I am incredibly proud of the administrators and staff at both Beveridge and McCullough for the intentional work they have done to center families this school year,” said Jamila Adams, Assistant Director of Curriculum and Assessment and Coordinator of the IN*SOURCE Family Engagement Grant. “True family engagement begins with listening. These schools have shown a genuine commitment to hearing the voices of their families, valuing their feedback, and using that input to strengthen relationships and improve outcomes for students. This recognition is a testament to the culture of partnership they have worked hard to build.”

The certification marks an important step in each school’s family engagement journey and demonstrates a shared belief that families are essential partners in student success. Beveridge and McCullough will continue building upon this foundation as they pursue future levels of certification and expand opportunities for family-school partnerships.
