Dear Cougar Families,
Our WSLA students are truly awesome! Students from all grade levels volunteered to cheer on our special populations students during their unforgettable prom, “Night to Shine.” As each student walked down the red carpet, they were met with loud cheers, smiles, and so much Cougar pride. It was a beautiful moment of celebration and support that truly reflects the heart of our school community.
A special thank you to Dr. Alexis Nelson and Faith Temple of Christ Church for putting together such an incredible event. The evening was filled with joy, dignity, and love, and we are so grateful to have been part of it.
Thank you for having us — it was a night we will never forget! 💙

WSLA Parents and students, The Gary Alumni Pathways to Students (G.A.P.S.) is hosting a FAFSA night tomorrow Tuesday Feb 10, 2026, at Westside Leadership Academy! The Gary Alumni Pathways to Students (G.A.P.S.) team will guide you step by step through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid process.
Ms. Tanika House, M.Ed., Associate Director of Financial Aid at Purdue University Northwest, will be joining us tomorrow to speak with parents about FAFSA.

If not, no worries—over the next few weeks, there will be several opportunities for students to receive assistance with completing scholarship applications during school hours. We strongly encourage you to motivate your student to learn about and take advantage of these amazing opportunities, as having multiple funding sources can be extremely beneficial.
Please note that Boeing will be talking to students on Wed Jan 21, 2026, during their advisory block to discuss how they can apply for the Gary Stem scholarship.
Additionally, we strongly encourage all parents and students to attend one of our two Parent and Student Meetings on Thursday, January 22, 2026, 2:30p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Important information regarding graduation dates and graduation requirements will be shared.
