Uniforms Are Mandatory
Beginning this week, students are expected to be in full uniform each day. Students who do not adhere to the uniform expectations will receive tiered consequences, which may include removal from extracurricular activities (athletics, clubs, events, and other school activities) if noncompliance continues.
We look forward to seeing you on campus tomorrow!

Happy New Year!
This is a friendly reminder that students will return to school on Monday, January 5, 2026, and are expected to resume the mandatory uniform requirements. The required uniform consists of navy blue collared tops and khaki bottoms.
Cougar gear is also an acceptable form of uniform. If your family does not yet have Cougar gear, it can be ordered at the following link:

Enjoy the remainder of your winter break, and we look forward to welcoming our students back to campus in uniform on Monday morning. Thank You!

We hope that you and your family are having a wonderful and restful winter break.
This is a reminder that after winter break, beginning Monday, January 5, 2026, all students will be required to resume compliance with the mandatory uniform policy. Please note that Cougar gear is considered an acceptable form of uniform.

Thank you for continuing to partner with us as we build a strong foundation for lifelong learning success for our students.

Dear West Side Leadership Academy Families,
I hope this message finds you and your family well. At West Side, our goal has always been to
remove barriers and make it as easy as possible for students to come to school ready to learn. In
that spirit, we shifted to a uniform option so that clothing would not stand in the way of students
walking through our doors. As we continue to grow as a school community, it has become clear
that we also need to be intentional about building a stronger sense of school pride, unity, and
focus. One of the ways we can do this is through a consistent, visible identity for our students.
When our students look like Cougars, they are more likely to feel like Cougars, and to carry
themselves with the pride and responsibility that comes with that.
Beginning when we return from Winter Break on January 5th, we will return to mandatory
uniforms for all students, as noted in the Student Code of Conduct.
Please check your Skyward inbox for full details.
There will be a Parent Advisory Meeting for all families today from 1:00–2:00 PM in the West Side Parent Room.
Immediately following, there will be a Jostens meeting for all seniors in the auditorium from 2:00–3:00 PM.
We can't wait to see you there!

The Gary Police Department was immediately contacted and responded to the scene. The adults involved were arrested, as well as several non-West Side Leadership Academy students. Emergency medical personnel were also called to ensure that all students involved received appropriate medical attention if required.
The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. Continued support and collaboration with students, parents, families and community stakeholders are essential as we work to maintain a secure environment for everyone.
Dear Families,
