Has your student begun applying for scholarships? If not, no worries—over the next few weeks, there will be several opportunities for students to receive assistance with completing scholarship applications during school hours. We strongly encourage you to motivate your student to learn about and take advantage of these amazing opportunities, as having multiple funding sources can be extremely beneficial.
Please note that Boeing will be talking to students on Wed Jan 21, 2026, during their advisory block to discuss how they can apply for the Gary Stem scholarship.
Additionally, we strongly encourage all parents and students to attend one of our two Parent and Student Meetings on Thursday, January 22, 2026, 2:30p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Important information regarding graduation dates and graduation requirements will be shared.

Uniforms Are Mandatory
Beginning this week, students are expected to be in full uniform each day. Students who do not adhere to the uniform expectations will receive tiered consequences, which may include removal from extracurricular activities (athletics, clubs, events, and other school activities) if noncompliance continues.
We look forward to seeing you on campus tomorrow!

Happy New Year!
This is a friendly reminder that students will return to school on Monday, January 5, 2026, and are expected to resume the mandatory uniform requirements. The required uniform consists of navy blue collared tops and khaki bottoms.
Cougar gear is also an acceptable form of uniform. If your family does not yet have Cougar gear, it can be ordered at the following link:

Enjoy the remainder of your winter break, and we look forward to welcoming our students back to campus in uniform on Monday morning. Thank You!

We hope that you and your family are having a wonderful and restful winter break.
This is a reminder that after winter break, beginning Monday, January 5, 2026, all students will be required to resume compliance with the mandatory uniform policy. Please note that Cougar gear is considered an acceptable form of uniform.
Cougar gear is available for purchase at the following link:

We look forward to welcoming back all of our bright scholars in uniform on Monday, January 5, 2026.
Thank you, guardians, for your continued partnership in creating a successful, lifelong learning experience for our students. We appreciate your ongoing support and cooperation.

When we return from Winter Break on Monday, January 5, 2026, all WSLA students are expected to be in full uniform in accordance with the Student Handbook. Students may also wear approved Cougar gear.
Don’t have any Cougar gear, or need to purchase more? Items are available online at http://gcsc.printful.me/
.
Thank you for continuing to partner with us as we build a strong foundation for lifelong learning success for our students.

Dear West Side Leadership Academy Families,
I hope this message finds you and your family well. At West Side, our goal has always been to
remove barriers and make it as easy as possible for students to come to school ready to learn. In
that spirit, we shifted to a uniform option so that clothing would not stand in the way of students
walking through our doors. As we continue to grow as a school community, it has become clear
that we also need to be intentional about building a stronger sense of school pride, unity, and
focus. One of the ways we can do this is through a consistent, visible identity for our students.
When our students look like Cougars, they are more likely to feel like Cougars, and to carry
themselves with the pride and responsibility that comes with that.
Beginning when we return from Winter Break on January 5th, we will return to mandatory
uniforms for all students, as noted in the Student Code of Conduct.
Please check your Skyward inbox for full details.
There will be a Parent Advisory Meeting for all families today from 1:00–2:00 PM in the West Side Parent Room.
Immediately following, there will be a Jostens meeting for all seniors in the auditorium from 2:00–3:00 PM.
We can't wait to see you there!

Dear GCSC Students, families and stakeholders,
In order to ensure a safe commute for families and staff, the Gary Community School Corporation will operate on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
Safety is our first priority, so please exercise caution when navigating the storm. Please watch for any updates via our website, social media, email, WGVE 88.7 FM and robocall in case the need arises for a full-day cancelation.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
WSLA PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING!
