Dear Parents and Guardians,

I’m writing following this afternoon’s meeting of the state agency that oversees the school district, DUAB. The contract for the organization that manages the school district, MGT, expires at the end of June, so today, DUAB Board members discussed a contract renewal. I wanted to make sure you had the latest information.

Most of the Board members expressed support for having MGT transition the work in one final two-year contract that would lead to GCSC exiting distressed unit status. As the Board Chair said, “We are at the beginning of the end.”

We are at this position because of the progress students, families, staff, and administrators have made together in recent years. We have eliminated the school district’s $22 million deficit, invested in modernizing our school buildings, increased teachers’ salaries, and extended the school day. This work is paying off.

The next step in this process will be the DUAB Board members holding a meeting next month in Gary. This meeting would allow MGT to present their plan for the next two years and to give residents an opportunity to share what they would like to see happen over the next two years.

We will be sure to share more information on our website and other channels once the time, date, and location for this meeting are finalized.

Thank you,

Dr. Paige McNulty

Manager, GCSC
