During this most challenging time, students and staff of the Gary Community School Corporation Fine Arts department, created innovative video projects, serving as capstones to the 2019-2020 school year. The culminating projects were produced by Gary Middle School for Visual and Performing Arts and the West Side Theatre Guild Performing Arts Department at West Side Leadership Academy.

GMS for VPA produced an innovative piece entitled, “Do You Believe in Magic”. Students submitted independent performances via cellphone and were cleverly edited into an entertaining product. The video was produced by Asia Dickens (219) 670-7916- choreography, Eric “E.J.” Jackson (323) 453-9556- musical direction, Crystal Deluna- visual art consultant, Passion Jefferson (412) 880-7105- video Editor. Ms. Antoinette Dixon is principal at GMS.

The West Side Theatre Guild Performing Arts Department at West Side Leadership Academy created a dynamic video paying tribute to music legend Bill Withers. The Guild chose to create an ensemble piece using the Withers classic, “Lovely Day”. WSTG students and staff contributed performance pieces via zoom conferencing technology. The video includes contributions from Gary Mayor, Jerome Prince, GCSC Emergency Manager, Dr. Paige McNulty and WSLA principal, Othiniel Mahone.

The piece is Produced and directed by Mark Spencer, M.Ed., Director of Fine Arts, GCSC-(312) 409.9211.
